When I first started building Get Adulting, I knew I wanted budgeting to be part of it eventually. It wasn’t just about remembering oil changes or doctor appointments; money is one of the biggest stressors for people like me who didn’t grow up with clear financial guidance. Especially if you’re neurodivergent, living paycheck to paycheck, overwhelmed (or all three), budgeting apps are often too complicated and require syncing with your bank, leaving you with no privacy.
Therefore, I’m really excited to share a sneak peek at the newest upcoming feature: My Budget!
A Budget Tool That Doesn’t Shame You
This isn’t a financial planner with pie charts and overwhelming dashboards. My Budget is a section designed to meet you where you’re at!
🧾 Add Your Bills
Enter bills and subscriptions (like rent, phone, or even that monthly cloud storage you forgot about), and see which ones are due before your next paycheck.
⏰ Set Gentle Reminders
Choose reminders that actually work for your brain: 1 week, 3 days, or 1 day before the bill is due.
💸 Track Paychecks
Add your next paycheck and immediately see which bills fall before then so you’re not surprised when rent is due the day before payday. Easily see what bills need to be paid from what paycheck so you are not caught off guard.
⚠️ Overdue? You’ll Know.
If you missed a payment, you’ll see a little hazard icon! Both on the bill itself and on the home page next to the 'My Budget' section so you can easily see if anything is overdue.
Financial Education That Makes Sense
✨ What's the difference between checking and savings?✨ How do I start investing?✨ Why do I need an emergency fund?✨
These guides are beginner-friendly, not condescending, and built directly into the app. I wanted something I could’ve actually used at 18 (or 25) without feeling overwhelmed or behind.
Why I’m Building It This Way
I’ve stared at my bank app, calculator, and Notes app trying to piece together what I can actually afford after bills. It sucks. I always wanted something that just told me: Hey, these are the bills you have to pay before your next check. That’s exactly what My Budget does. It does not sync to your bank and access all your transactions. It does not tell you that you are being bad and not saving enough (like some other apps shame you). It simply lets you track when a bill needs to be paid in relation to your paycheck.
Coming Soon
My Budget is launching soon inside the Get Adulting app, and I can’t wait for you to try it. Like everything else in the app, it’s built from real experience, with real brains in mind.
Expected launch is October 2025. See you there!
