Frequently Asked Questions
Find out everything you need to know about the Get Adulting app.
Q: Is my data safe?
A: Absolutely. Your privacy is top priority. All of your information (from car details to health notes) is stored only on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded to a server or shared externally. Because of this, you do need to manually export your data when switching devices.
Q: Is this app helpful if I have ADHD or executive dysfunction?
A: Yes!! The whole app was built with neurodivergent users in mind, especially those who struggle with remembering tasks, managing routines, or just feeling overwhelmed. Everything is organized clearly, the reminders are built to support you, and there’s no judgment: just gentle support to keep you on track!! Read more about it in our blog
Q: Can I use Adulting offline?
A: Yes! All educational guides, saved notes, reminders, and personal information are available even without a WiFi connection.
Q: How much does the Get Adulting app cost?
A: Get Adulting is just $1.99 per year after a free 7-day trial! After the trial, a subscription is required to continue using the app. The Get Adulting app is intentionally priced low to help make the tool accessible to more people, as everyone could use a little support with adulthood. If you are unable to pay for the app, please email us at contact@getadulting.com and we can try to work something out!
Q: Is there a way to get notified before something is due?
A: Yes!! Most reminders are designed to give you a heads-up early, like car registration reminders coming two months before the due date or oil change reminders 1 month and 1 week before its actually due. That way, you have time to plan and budget without feeling rushed.
Q: Can I manage more than one car or different types of pet?
A: Right now, the Get Adulting app supports tracking one car and cats/dogs. However, more flexibility (support for multiple cars and more pets) is already in the works and coming soon!
Q: Does the Get Adulting app nag me with pushy notifications?
A: Nope. You’re in full control. You can turn notifications on or off, choose if you want them to stay on your Lock Screen, and even enable Pester Mode if you do want weekly follow-ups for overdue stuff. It's designed to work with your brain, not against it.
Q: What if I don’t need every section of the app?
A: Totally fine! You can turn off any section you don’t use. No pets? Turn off My Pets. Not interested in Life Guides? Hide it! The app is customizable so you only see what’s actually helpful to you. You can also change the color of the app!
Q: Can I track recurring tasks like changing sheets or doing laundry?
A: Yep! The Adulting Tasks section includes pre-made reminders for common chores (like towel washing and fridge clean-outs), and you can create your own custom tasks too. Daily, weekly, monthly: whatever schedule works for you! I created this section with the intention of eliminating the overwhelm that comes with manually creating todos. Once you enable the tasks you want, you'll get a recurring notification plus it'll be added to your todo list!
Q: I just want a simple place to track stuff. Is this too much?
A: Not at all! You can use as much or as little of the app as you want. Want to just track car maintenance and ignore everything else? That works. Want a full life manager with health notes, routines, and a to-do spin wheel? That works too.
Q: Are there ads?
A: Ew gross, absolutely not! No ads, no pop-ups, no weird tracking, no back-up servers, no possible way for a data leak. Just a clean, supportive app for $1.99 a year! Accessibility and privacy was incredibly important to me when building this app.
Q: What happens if I get a new phone?
A: Since your data is stored locally on your device, you’ll need to export and import it manually. If you do not have a saved export from your original phone, you will lose all your data. This is to protect your data, as the Get Adulting app does not save data to a back-up server. Enabled by default is a recurring Adulting Task that reminds you to export your data, be sure to save to your files on your device (automatically synced by iCloud) or email a copy to yourself!
Q: What’s Pester Mode?
A: It’s an optional setting for users (like me) who want a little extra push. Nothing is more annoying than an app that sends you too many notifications. That is why this settings is optional, so you can choose if you want the extra push! When enabled, you’ll get a notification on Saturday that reminds you of any overdue items you have (like overdue car maintenance or paste-due health check).
Q: Can I change the app color if I don't like purple?
A: Yes! You can pick any color from a full-color spectrum and even save your favorites. The app is fully customizable to match your vibe!
Q: What's Affirmation Mode?
A: Affirmation Mode shows daily affirmations on your home page and gives you more lighthearted, positive reminders throughout the app. It's a great way to add a little encouragement to your day!
Q: Does the app include recipes?
A: Yes! You can save your favorite recipes, adjust serving sizes, and access cooking basics and conversion charts. Everything you need for meal planning and cooking, all in one place. Plus, you'll see a super yummy chocolate chip recipe preloaded when you download the Get Adulting App!
Q: What kind of mental health tools are included?
A: The Mental Health section includes a breathing animation, journaling space, daily affirmations, digital fidgets, focus timers, and helpful resources. It's there for when you need a moment to reset or refocus.
Q: Is there really Solitaire built into the app?
A: Yep! It's a simple, ad-free version of Solitaire with no pop-ups. Just a clean game to keep your brain sharp when you need a quick break! I actually originally built this for my partner, who didn't want to pay for an app just for solitaire, and all the free ones had ads or annoying popups. Then I thought, why not add it to my app!
Q: Can I track bills without connecting my bank account?
A: Absolutely! The budget section lets you track bills and upcoming paychecks without any bank connection. You can see what's due before your next pay and set bill reminders, all while keeping your financial info completely private.
Q: What's Electric Car Mode?
A: If you drive an electric vehicle, you can enable Electric Car Mode to show only the maintenance that's relevant to you. No need to see reminders for oil changes or transmission fluid when you don't need them!
Q: What if I need help understanding things like 401(k)s or credit scores?
A: That's what the Life Guides are for! They include offline guides for topics like renting, taxes, student loans, budgeting, 401(k)s, credit scores, and more. Everything is written in plain, easy-to-understand language.
Q: Can I use the app to store important numbers like my VIN or driver's license?
A: Yes! You can store your VIN, license plate, driver's license number, and other important info in the My Garage section. It's all stored offline and secure on your device.
Q: What does the hazard symbol mean?
A: The hazard symbol appears on your Home page and in relevant sections (like My Garage) when something is overdue, like car maintenance or a health checkup. It's a visual reminder to help you stay on top of things!
Q: What are Time-Sensitive Notifications?
A: This is an optional setting that keeps reminders on your Lock Screen for extra accountability. You can enable it for reminders, daily tasks, and prescription reminders - whatever you need that extra nudge for!
Q: Can I save grocery lists or other notes?
A: Yes! The app includes lists and notes sections where you can track everything from groceries to random thoughts. Keep all your lists in one organized place!
Q: Will this app be available on Android?
A: Not yet, but it's in the works! Right now the Get Adulting app is only available on iOS. You can sign up on the website to get notified when the Android version launches.
Q: Is there really just one person behind this whole app?
A: Yes! The Get Adulting app was created and is maintained by Breanna, who built it from her own experiences of feeling lost trying to navigate adulthood. There's no big team - just one person who genuinely wants to help people feel more confident with adulting!
Q: Can I add my own custom tasks and reminders?
A: Yes! You can fully customize your own tasks from the title/description to the schedule to the notification time Whether it’s watering plants or calling your grandma, it’s your list, your way. You have several ways to set up your schedule:
Daily Tasks: Perfect for habit building, reminders for tasks that reoccur throughout the week that revolve around a habit (like brushing teeth, working out, drinking water, etc.)
Adulting Tasks: Ideal for chores or recurring tasks like cleaning your sheets and checking the mail. There are several default already created but you can build your own. They will be added to a to-do list for you to tackle when you are ready!
Reminders: Actual reminders not tied to a Daily Task checklist.
To-Do List: general todo list without notifications, great for ongoing todos that have no due date attached
