Dark Mode, Family Profiles, and 20+ Fonts: the Get Adulting App's Biggest Update Yet!!

I am someone who loves to make my apps feel like mine. I spend way too much time changing colors, tweaking settings, adjusting fonts, and making sure everything looks exactly how I want it. Customization is one of those small things that makes a huge difference in whether I actually enjoy using an app or whether it feels like a chore. So nothing frustrates me more than when an app shows you all these beautiful customization options and then locks them behind a paywall. "Want dark mode? That's premium. Want to change your font? Upgrade for $9.99/month." It drives me insane because it feels like the app is dangling something in front of you just to squeeze more money out of you (which honestly every app/business does nowadays - we are just a number not an actual person).

When I built Get Adulting, I promised myself I would never do that. If a feature exists in the app, you get access to it. Period. No premium tiers, no "pro" version, no unlocking things you can already see. And this update (Get Adulting v9.0) is the most customizable Get Adulting has ever been with every single feature included at no extra cost.

Dark Mode is Finally Here

This has been the single most requested feature since I launched the app back in April! I heard you, I just wanted to make sure I did it right. You can now enable dark mode to stay on permanently or set it to match your system settings so it switches automatically throughout the day. But I didn't want to just slap a dark background on the app and call it done. You can also choose a custom dark background color (any color!) or pick from preset themes so your dark mode actually looks the way you want it to look. You can also change the app color when in dark mode so you can truly change the appearance from night and day. If you're someone who uses your phone at night (which, let's be honest, is most of us), this is going to be a game changer for your eyes.

Over 20 Fonts to Choose From

This is the one I'm personally super excited about because I am a font person. I added over 20 different fonts so you can truly make the app feel like yours. Want something clean and modern? There are options for that. Want something softer and more playful? Got it. Want something bold that makes your tasks feel important? That's in there too. And yes, before you even ask, this is completely free. No "unlock premium fonts" nonsense. You paid for the app, you get the fonts. I genuinely do not understand why other apps charge extra for something as basic as letting you pick a font and I refuse to be part of that. Especially because Apple gives you font options built-in to Xcode, I did not have to pay extra as a developer to license or anything!

Custom App Backgrounds

You've always been able to pick your main app color in Get Adulting, but now you can also choose any background color you want independent of that main color. So if you want a purple accent color with a cream background, you can do that. If you want a blue accent with a darker gray background, go for it. Mix and match however you want. This is in the App Theme section in Settings alongside all the other customization options. I also included a BUNCH of gorgeous premade themes - I truly can't wait to see everyone's combos!!

Introducing My Family: The Feature I'm Most Proud Of!

My Family is a brand new section where you can create comprehensive profiles for the important people in your life. You can store important phone numbers, allergies, medications, vaccines, doctors, school information, emergency contacts, important dates, reminders, and more all in one organized place. If you've ever been at a doctor's appointment and blanked on your kid's pediatrician's number, or been filling out a school form and couldn't remember your emergency contact's number, or just needed quick access to allergy information for a family member, this section is built for exactly that.

And because privacy has always been at the core of Get Adulting, everything in My Family stays 100% offline and locally stored on your device. Your family's medical information, your kids' school details, your emergency contacts: none of that ever touches a server. It never leaves your phone. It's yours and only yours.

But here's the part I'm really excited about: you can share profiles with other Get Adulting users in your family! This was highly requested because there is no sync since the app is offline-first so happy to offer this alternative. If your partner downloads the app, instead of them having to manually re-enter all the same information about your kids or your shared contacts, you can just share the profiles directly and they'll have everything set up in seconds. It makes it so much easier to get your whole family on the same page without the tedious data entry.

Multi-Car Support in My Garage

For those of us with more than one vehicle, or for families sharing car duties between partners, you can now add up to 4 cars in My Garage. Each car gets tracked separately with its own maintenance schedule, its own notifications, and its own history. No more trying to remember which car needs an oil change or mixing up when you last rotated the tires on which vehicle. Everything is organized in one place and you can see all your vehicles at a glance!

Support for Users Outside the US

I've gotten so many messages from users in other countries asking for support for their local currency and measurement systems, and I'm happy to say this update delivers. My Budget now has currency options beyond USD and My Garage now supports kilometers instead of miles. If you enable "Outside of the US?" in your settings, you can see these options as well as disable emissions tracking since I know that's not relevant everywhere. I see my international users and I appreciate you! Language support is coming.

Updated Women's Health Tracking

The Women's Health section got a significant upgrade in this update. You can now track your symptoms throughout your cycle, edit your cycle length to match your actual patterns instead of being stuck with a default, and get a much more comprehensive picture of your health over time. Fun Additions Because Why Not!

There's a new Valentine's Day theme with falling hearts and string lights that you can enable in App Theme. I added a Daily Tasks Spin Wheel so if you're feeling overwhelmed by your to-do list, you can spin the wheel and let fate decide what you tackle first. Sometimes you just need a little gamification to get moving. And yes, I added zodiac signs for your pets in My Pets. Once you input their birthday, you can see what zodiac sign they are and learn a little bit about what that means. Is your cat acting unhinged because they're a Gemini (like me)? Now you can find out!

Quality of Life Improvements

Beyond the big headline features, I spent a lot of time on smaller improvements that make the app work better day to day. I added "Last Done" to custom Adulting Tasks so you can adjust when the next task is due based on when you actually last completed it. I improved the deletion logic in My Budget so you can delete one bill or all bills, same with paychecks, just hold to delete or tap to open. I added more basic pet care tips for cats and dogs. I added a calendar sync help guide that explains family sharing and connecting with Google or Outlook calendars through iOS. I added a copy and share button to Lists and Notes so you can easily share your grocery list or notes with someone else. I updated To-Dos to have a time-sensitive notification option along with toggles to enable reminders leading up to the due date. I added a new weekly view for Daily Tasks so you can see your entire week in one place and reorder tasks per day. I fixed My Budget loading slowly when you have lots of entries. I fixed some notification logic issues with air filters and battery checks. And a bunch of other small fixes and tweaks that just make everything smoother.

I want to be clear that this update exists because of user feedback. Dark mode? You asked for it. My Family? Multiple people requested it. Multi-car support? That came from emails. I read every single message I receive and I build what you actually need. Get Adulting isn't built by a team trying to guess what users want.
